Using Freescale Processor - Zune Runs Linux
Most Popular / Default

With the Freescale iMX31L processor, we already knew Zune could run Linux - but who was gonna be the first to try? Well, according to one fearless warranty-voiding individual, that prospect is now at least one step closer to reality. In a post on ZuneBoards, “Mys Videl” claims that he’s managed to get Linux on Zune “partway working,” currently only able to be booted while synced and with limited capabilities. While Videl’s not willing to let the secret loose just yet (or even provide pics of it in action for that matter) he is promising to release it as open source when its finished, and open it up to beta testing before that. Exactly when that might happen, he isn’t saying.

Use Your PlayStation 3 To Cure Alzheimer's Disease
Most Popular / Default

I seriously doubt you'll see a PS3 under the tree this Xmas (and if you did, someone proabably paid way over the RRP!!!). But if you are lucky enough to find one, and after you've grown bored of the lame launch titles you'll also find it could be a powerful tool in fighting protein-based diseases. Using distributed computing technology, Sony has teamed up with Stanford University's Folding@home project to take a quantum leap forward in simulation processing power.

It looks as though the guys over at Doom9 have cracked the encryption for HD-DVD. My guess is someone is gonna be in big trouble for this little program. BackupHDDVD is a tool to decrypt an AACS protected movie that you own, so you can play it back later using an HDDVD player software."

Toshiba B-SX8R Rewritable Paper Printer Demo Video
Most Popular / Digital

According to Vnunet, Toshiba has developed a printer (B-SX8R) that can erase and reprint — up to 500 times — on a single sheet of paper. Toshiba’s process uses a special pigment in the paper that reacts to heat. If heated above 180 degrees centigrade the pigment turns black, creating an image on the sheet. However, if the surface is heated to between 130 and 170 degrees the pigment reverts to white, allowing the image to be ‘erased’
